The Belem Tower: design for all
A key theme of the Design to Read project is that helping people with disabilities can improve the experience for everyone.
The Belem Tower (Torre de Belém in Portuguese) stands on the side of the Tagus near Lisbon. It's a charming, fairy-tale castle that was built in the early 16th Century and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
As a much-photographed tourist attraction, it's not particularly accessible to people with visual impairments. The little castle rises directly from the water.
